PRODUCTION
|
The shoemaking process is more complex that one could imagine. It takes nearly 200 phases to make one pair of Pertti Palmroth footwear – most of them are handmade. This is one of the reasons why Pertti Palmroth -footwear are made in Finland – under strict quality control.
Pertti Palmroth -products are made in two factories owned by the company. Most of the company’s competitors have moved their production to countries, where labour and other production costs are only part of those in the Western countries. By operating this way, the company employs Finnish people and distinguishes itself from the competitors, and creates a competitive edge by offering quality, that can be achieved only by monitoring every production phase in own production units. Pertti Palmroth Shoe Manufacturers has two separate production units, which are presented in the text below:
Sarankulma, Tampere, Finland
The Sarankulma factory is the company’s main place of business, where the company´s core products – shoes and boots - are manufactured. The company’s sole production operations where also moved to the Sarankulma factory from Pirkkala in 2005. In addition to the footwear and sole making, Sarankulma offers facilities to the company’s administration. Sarankulma factory was built in 1976 and its current production capacity is approximately 700 pairs of shoes per day.
Virrat, Finland
The Virrat factory was acquired in 1998. It produces Pertti Palmroth bags and shoe uppers, which are used in the shoe manufacturing process. The Virrat factory’s current production capacity is around 100 bags per day.
